IFA Schools cup

On a lovely sunny day, the Senior School football team took on schools from across Northern Ireland in the IFA Schools' Cup at the Valley Leisure Centre. The boys got off to a great start dispatching Killard House B 4-1 with goals from Oscar (2), James and Lucas.

The next two games were scrappy and tight affairs which finished 0-1 and 1-2 (Clarke scored) with narrow defeats against Beechlawn and Castle Tower. We then won an impressive game against Arvalee, racking up 6 goals including a hattrick from Oscar, and strikes from James, Bradley and goalkeeper Daniel!

Sadly, the boys were unable to follow this up, taking a heavy defeat by Killard House A team, and a narrow loss to Rosstulla. Special praise must go to Chi Chi who was outstanding in defence all day and battled well with players much bigger than him.

The team finished on a much more pleasing note with the students showing real character to battle to a 0-0 draw with St Gerard's, whose goalkeeper pulled off two wonder saves to deny Clarke a deserved goal and Park the victory.

Final placings left us 5th overall – a well-deserved result. The students showed great attitude and effort throughout and were a credit to the school. Well done!
