Maths

In Park school we aim to increase pupil confidence in mathematics, so they can express themselves and their ideas. We want our students to have highly motivated attitudes to learning and encourage fun mathematics lessons which are relevant to them. Students are encouraged to solve problems that will help them to adapt well to an ever-changing world and we teach teamwork skills so that students can work well collaboratively.

We use the Sandwell Early Numeracy Test to assess pupil’s ability with numbers and identify specific numeracy skills requiring targeted teaching. The assessment explores five strands of basic numeracy skills: identification, oral counting, value, object counting and language.

Key Stage 3

In Key Stage 3, students are provided with work to challenge them from a suitable level of progression. Using thematic units, the students work to improve their understanding of number, measures, shape and space and handling data. Classes work in small groups at twenty-minute intervals and rotate three times on a daily basis.

Key Stage 4 & 5

Key Stages 4 and Post 16 follow current external specifications.

OCN Essential Skills Mathematics (Entry Level)

CCEA Mathematics (Entry level)

OCN Essential Skills (Level 1, 2)

We also use the Mathletics programme which is a comprehensive online maths learning tool that brings out the joy in learning and keeps students engaged and enthused. There are bespoke courses to challenge the students appropriately and it enables teachers track pupil success and area in which to improve.
