Geography

Geography is taught through themes at Key Stage 3.  Themes currently include:

  • Where I Live

  • Environments

  • Europe

  • The Americas

  • Around the World in 80 Days

Class teachers design activities appropriate for their pupils to allow them to develop geographical skills.  Pupils have opportunities to interpret spatial patterns, incorporating atlas and map-work skills.  Pupils are encouraged to develop a sense of place through the study of a range of local, national, European and global contexts.  Planned activities allow pupils to contrast physical and human environments and to investigate issues of topical significance.

CEA Entry Level Geography is an option at KS4.  This is a two year course of study which involves pupils completing six units of work for assessment at the end of year 12.  Pupils study three physical geography topics and three human geography topics.

These topics are:

  • Earthquakes and volcanoes

  • Changeable Weather

  • Coasts

  • Development

  • Managing Resources

  • Population

Course Aims:

Pupils develop a sense of place and an appreciation of the environment at a range of scales from local to global.  Pupils develop an awareness of the ways in which people and environments interact, the importance of sustainable development in those interactions and the opportunities, challenges and constraints that face people in different places.
